Video: The Release of Google Chrome OS With Demo And Free Download
Many people were shocked when back in July this year, Google announced that they were working on an alternative Operating System (the piece of software which gives our computer hardware a soul), dubbed the Chrome OS! What! Somebody is making Operating System, and it’s not Microsoft or Apple?! That was what’s on many people’s mind.
In one sense though, this shouldn’t be a big surprise for us, because if there is one entity who can challenge Microsoft or Apple domination in Operating System arena, it would be Google.
The most interesting thing about this Chrome OS is that it is based on an Internet Browser (in this case Google’s own Chrome Browser), and that the code will be an Open Source Project. This means that, like Linux, and unlike Windows or Mac OS, people like you and me would be able to contribute to the development of this Operating System (provided that you understand programming of course).
So, what is Chrome OS? The following video will give you a basic understanding of what it’s all about.
tell me what do u think???
Google Wave
Google Wave is probably the most anticipated product to be released this year but is it really all that? I received an invite for it a few days ago and activated the account without realising the limitations. It is described as a “a personal communication and collaboration tool” and works much in the same way as an instant messaging program. It merges email, instant messaging, wikis and social networking for one. It also allows collaboration on things such as documents, images, mapping and a number of other widgets which the range of will expand in the future.
The problem at the minute is the lack of users and the lack of interest. Very view people I know or who are on my contacts list in gmail are using it and they don’t really care about the hype surrounding. The second issue and most major in my opinion is the inability to send emails to and from it to non wave users; this is a deal breaker if they plan on “reinventing email” the way the people at Google are claiming to be attempting. Integrating the mail function and merging your Gmail account could actually rapidly increase the popularity of the application and I know I would use it as my primary method of communication online.
Google Wave has the potential of being the best communication tool on the market but until it sorts out the email feature, allowing communication to and from non-wave users I don’t think it will get a lot of use. It is however only in the preview stage so these features are very likely to be on the drawing board.
